Описание:
People have a choice on how and where they want to live out the remaining years of their lives. Happiness and quality of life should not be a question; it should be a requirement for long-term care facilities to provide. This thesis presents the media coverage of the Green House Project which is a fairly new concept that radically redesigns the nursing home experience. Green Houses are small self- sufficient homes built to offer elders the opportunity to live out their remaining years in a place that they feel comfortable calling home as opposed to an industrialized facility that feels like a hospital. This concept is just beginning to grow and will only become more popular to the masses as it continues to receive more media coverage.

Описание:
Despite the extensive research previously conducted on female factory workers in the Free Trade Zones (FTZ) in Sri Lanka, FTZ supervisors have not received adequate attention. Under the topic “Free Trade Zone factory supervisors: A social psychological inquiry into their work-related experiences” this book, therefore, closely examines the situation of supervisors working in a Free Trade Zone factory in Katunayake, Sri Lanka, focusing on their work experiences and the psychological implications of these experiences. The work-experiences of supervisors are identified in six important areas. The psychological implications of these experiences are analysed using a theoretical framework that comprises theories of leadership and group behaviour, motivation, organisational stress and learned helplessness. Описание:
Collaboration for innovation through the distant search for knowledge presents unique challenges from partnering for resources. Firms through their exploratory learning are incorporating informal knowledge flows in order to retain the organizational capability to respond to environmental uncertainties. This quantitative correlational study examined the mediating role of social capital in the inter-firm network on the adoption of innovative technologies required to exploit oil and gas resources efficiently. The empirical study integrated a conceptual model that comprised the knowledge-based view, alliance and social network theories. The impact of informal knowledge networks in collaborative organizations was observed to be positive and was moderated by the specific partner firm attributes. Описание:
This book takes a look at the Ghanaian children’s perceptions of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA). Sexual abuse/assault is a phenomenon whose scope transcends generations and whose victims are being increasingly found among societys most vulnerable populations. Several studies that have been published on the issue have discussed the rate, pervasiveness, prevalence, and nature of child sexual abuse. This book is exceptional in the sense that it investigates Ghanaian childrens perceptions of, and knowledge about sexual abuse. It also tries to determine how capable the children are in their ability to identify potential perpetrators and the actions they can take in the event that it happens to them, their friends or their relatives. This is a seminal study because it was conducted in an environment that still supports the notion that children should be seen and not heard and where issues bordering on sexuality is taboo.

There is an impressive amount of literature on both theory and practice of translation. Most of it focuses on achieving a proper balance between meaning and form in the target text.Translation can be viewed as a multifaceted process where a balance should be obtained between the equivalence of the source text and the target text, and the linguistic means chosen.Since its beginnings, translation has been seen to play the crucial role of conveying messages across linguistic and cultural barriers. There are certain socio-pragmatic differences between cultures which have not received due consideration. The present book reports the results of a contrastive study of translations of works of fiction involving three languages and cultures: English, Polish and Russian. Special focus is placed on the gender of the translator and its visibility in translation. The book provides a new point of view for translators as well as those who may be interested in translation practice. The empirical part…

Out of sight, out of mind… Cairos street children

This book explores how the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC) is translated into Egyptian law and examines its practicality when tackling the street child phenomenon. The first part assesses the theoretical and philosophical implications of the “child” and “adult” and its effects on the regulation of the human body, agency, and contemporary justice. It argues that the implications perpetuate negative repercussions on the concept of justice, while paving way for programs and services that support and defy the child-adult dichotomy. The second part examines how the CRC has been applied by focusing on the methods, implications, and differences of programs and services when availed to girls and boys. It explores how Plan Egypt contributes and challenges justice in relation to the State and law. Continue Reading «Out of sight, out of mind… Cairos street children»

Описание:
The leadership of the TPLF during Ethiopia’s civil war and their military victory over the Derg was successful for a variety of reasons. In addition to overthrowing the Derg, the TPLF efficiently organized the involvement of various members of the society during the struggle. The involvement of women in the TPLF was an important policy decision and women’s contributions to the TPLF’s success are an undeniable fact. Nevertheless, the lack of scholarly research on former women combatants and their experiences before, during and after the war has inadvertently written women out of Ethiopian history. This book addressed this omission, using a semi-structured interview to analyze the narratives of 20 women ex-combatants living in Addis Ababa from a feminist theoretical standpoint.
